What is the @ all about?

It has been pointed out to all of us lately that social networking is NOT a choice if we want to get traffic more to our blog. While I use Facebook and Linkedin, Twitter is always my first stop. Twitter is a pretty straight forward kind of deal...I post and they will come! In the poast I used my # regularly so my followers could find more stuff on the same subject. the # with a one word tag will guide followers to more information about your twit. But I did not understand the @...this is an awesome tool.

@...that funny little a in a circle, is a big boy when it comes to seeing your post on a twitter spread around. Lets say you have just written a post about decorating and you want spread the word. You have done your homework so you have a list of twit people you are following that you think might be interested. All you do is use your share button for twitter, add the @ before the name of the follower or twit site you want to contact along with your blog address that has been shortened with bit.ly.com. and a short note. If you do this on a regular basis it will help you build a larger "social networking" base to spread the word. While I am at it I want to mention @AddThis. Check this function out and start adding this before every twit with a link. I think it is helping me and my blog traffic is going up every day. This is how my twit would look:

barbblogtwits Barbara Torris @addthis Retirement Question: What do you do all day? http://nblo.gs/bVPWp

Like everything else you need to be careful to do this responsible...spam is not a word I want attached to my name. But I do think that using reply (@) with people of like interest is a good thing. Replying to witty posts or interesting blog on the twitter web is just good practice and always add you blog url. You brand name needs to be see.

I just thought you would want to know!
